ABOUT US

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Students' Society, HKUSTSU

Since our establishment 28 years ago, we act as the student body for the civil and environmental engineering students studying in HKUST. We have approximately 800 members and we provide a variety of welfare and opportunities for our members.

One of our main objectives is to arouse public interest in civil engineering. Over the years, we have held different events to try to achieve our goals. This includes an exhibition we hold annually, and the Secondary Schools Bridge Demonstration Competition.

For better understanding of the structure and design of bridges of secondary school students, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, HKUST and The Civil and Environmental Engineering Students' Society, HKUSTSU devised an educational competition named "Secondary Schools Bridge Demonstration Competition 2022" (SSC).

Participants are required to build a scaled model of a cable-stayed bridge using the materials provided. The bridge will be later tested for its strength using a loaded trolley running across the bridge. Through the competition, we hope to enhance their theoretical knowledge, develop their communication skills with their teammates and gain a chance to employ their science knowledge into real-life engineering application.

Successful applicants will be given a chance to demonstrate their bridge in the heat. As part of the opening ceremony of our biggest annual event, "Civil Festival", the top 4 teams will be qualified for the final, which will be held at the Atrium of HKUST, and the winning teams will be given a cash prize and certificates of merit. Stepping into our eleventh anniversary, with a long history of success, we hope to carry on the tradition and make this year's competition into one of the most successful one.
